Clarence Cormier is getting lots of raptor activity around his Grande-Digue
feeder yard: 2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS [Autour des palombes], a juvenile and an adult,
are regulars, and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK [Épervier brun] has joined them. Since
the raptors have camped out, the MOURNING DOVES [Tourterelle triste] have
dropped from 40 to 10, AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS [Bruant hudsonien] from 20 to 16,
and AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES [Chardonneret jaune] from 30 to 12, as of Sunday.
Clarence got an excellent photo of an immature Goshawk.
**
It’s nice to hear that there’s a pair of NORTHERN CARDINALS [Cardinal rouge] as
regular patrons at Susan Leaman’s feeder yard in Salisbury. They are
characteristically hard to get photos of, in true Cardinal style.
** Marlene and Bob Hickman’s NORTHERN FLICKER
[Pic flamboyant] made its usual morning visit to their suet feeder on Sunday,
but there was an unusual change of menu when it dropped by their
nyjer seed feeder
and used its tongue to reach into the small holes for seeds. A WHITE-BREASTED
NUTHATCH [Sittelle à poitrine blanche] is becoming quite regular as
well.
