** Brian Stone and Danny Sullivan made a trek to the back side of the Irishtown Nature Park reservoir on Sunday. They came across lots of BEAVER activity, noting some large, active lodges and a lot of freshly chewed trees. The colony there must be quite significant. They noted several openings in the ice, presumably being kept open by the beavers.

Brian also got a photo of a RED SQUIRREL [Écureuil roux] chewing on the nutritious buds of a conifer tree branch tip. Note the so-called nip twig in the squirrel’s mouth, removed and the squirrel feeding on it. The nip twigs are often on the ground under a chosen conifer. The only other wildlife they saw was an adult BALD EAGLE [Pygargue à tête blanche] flying over. Several of Brian’s photos of things they observed are attached.

** Georges Brun got a striking flight photo of a female NORTHERN HARRIER [Busard Saint-Martin] across from the mouth of Hall’s Creek on Thursday. Note the signature white rump patch and the dihedral of the wings. Georges also got a documentary photo of a PEREGRINE FALCON [Faucon pèlerin] atop the eastern facing “A” logo on the Assumption building. It’s looking promising for the nesting season ahead.
