** Carmella Melanson shares a photo of a strikingly plumaged male VARIED THRUSH [Grive à collier] that was reported by Brent Evered at a friend’s feeder at 34 Duke St, Fredericton (Marysville), on Sunday.  Carmella saw it on Monday morning.  The bird frequents the east side of the house where the feeders are and is easily seen from a vehicle when parked on the side of the road. Please make certain not to disturb the property owners and remain in your vehicle.  Several tried to see it later in the day on Monday, but to my knowledge it was not seen again on Monday.

** Dave Miller surely had a great raptor scenario as he explored Taylor Rd near Salisbury early Monday morning hearing 3 GREAT HORNED OWLS [Grand-duc d’Amérique] 1 BARRED OWL [Chouette rayée],  2 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS [Petite nyctale], and saw 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK [Autour des palombes].  What a productive early morning visit!  Dave also got a photo of a MINK [Vison d’Amerique].  Note the characteristic white throat of the mink in Dave’s photo.

** Marlene Hickman has had a female RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD [Carouge à épaulettes] several times since she spotted and submitted a photo of it a few weeks ago, assuming it to be an over-wintering bird.  However, a bright male arrived with EUROPEAN STARLINGS [Étourneau sansonnet] on Monday to suggest it to be a new migrant.
