It’s great to have the first reports of the Giant Silkworm Moths appearing. Sue Berube spotted a fresh Luna Moth at Lake Charlie near Meductic on June 9. It day perched to give great observation time to give a great photo and flew off on its mission just after dusk.
I have a Polyphemus Moth cocoon in the nursery and hoping it reads Sue’s report!

** Brian Stone captured a video of an EASTERN PHOEBE [Moucherolle phébi] in full song. Turn up the volume a bit, and take a look and listen at the attached link.

This call can be confused with the Alder Flycatcher, however; if you can see the bird, the Eastern Phoebe does not have the obvious wing bars or the white eye ring as clearly shows on an Alder Flycatcher. The Eastern Phoebe is usually in much more open environments, where the Alder Flycatcher would tend to favour Alder shrubbery. This would not apply during migration of course. The Eastern Phoebe also has that  near constant tail flicking behavior. This is a nice learning experience Brian has provided so take a look and listen at the attached link.
