** Kevin Renton reports that the new
snowfall has brought the flock of SNOW BUNTINGS [Bruant des neiges] that he has
been seeing to land and feed at their Stilesville yard. Sure enough there was
one LAPLAND LONGSPUR [Bruant lapon] with them as has often happened for the
Renton’s. A SHARP-SHINNED HAWK [Épervier brun] monitors the yard regularly and
a group of AMERICAN CROWS [Corneille d'Amérique] monitors the hawk equally as
regularly.
** The Great Backyard Bird Count
sponsored by Cornell University Lab of Ornithology is coming up this coming
weekend and has become a very popular Citizen Science North American project.
The details are attached below as taken from Cornell announcement:
It’s
almost here! The Great Backyard Bird Count is coming up this
weekend, Feb 12–15. If you’ve never been part of a group birdwatching
event, the GBBC is not to be missed. Join with tens of thousands of people to
celebrate the birds that light up our world—and then share their beauty by
sharing your sightings. How many birds will you find?
The easiest
way to participate is with our free Merlin Bird ID app—it’ll help you
ID a bird, and you can enter your sighting right from the app. Check out this
guide for
full Merlin instructions. Let’s do this!
(Note:
If you already use eBird to save your bird sightings, that’s also a great
option for sharing your GBBC list. Just enter your sightings via the eBird Mobile
app or via
the website.)
Birdwatching
is such a great source of calm, connection, and beauty. This weekend, we
invite you to take a little time out to celebrate the
wondrous creatures outside your door, and join us
in the GBBC.
With
love and appreciation for birds,
Your
friends at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology
Nelson Poirier,
Nature Moncton
