Nelson Poirier,
Nature Moncton
**
Tomorrow’s Tuesday evening Nature Moncton outing is detailed at the end of this
message, and repeated upfront tomorrow.
** Roger
Leblanc did his shorebird survey at the Riverview Marsh on Sunday. The
highlight was a BAIRD’S SANDPIPER - it was blended in with SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS. He found the number and diversity of shorebirds at that site up
from his last visit and is suspecting both to swell as the days go by. He found
a good number of shorebirds were not far from the gazebo.
** Aldo
Dorio continues to see BOBOLINKS at Hay Island in molted plumage. He
found 5 in female plumage and 6 appearing to be young of the year. Aldo sends a
photo of an adult male in breeding plumage he took in June of 2018. A very
striking difference when molt to non-breeding plumage takes place in this
species!
** Anna
Tucker is noting EUROPEAN STARLINGS feasting on seeds and berries on trees
outside her 80 Church Street Moncton apartment.
**** A heads-up on this coming Tuesday, August
24th Nature Moncton outing which will be a meander of the Mill
Creek Nature Park Trail in Riverview. Meet at 6:30 PM at the top of
Runnymede Rd. Runnymede Rd. is off Hillsborough Rd., the second street after
the Petro-Can station across from Point Park subdivision. This week’s
outing will be led by Wendy Sullivan.
