**Aldo Dorio got two nice photos of two Dunlin that
continue to be present at Hay Island on Monday.
The dark patch on the chest would suggest this is an
adult bird going into basic/winter plumage.
As Diana Hamilton pointed out in a recent
presentation to Nature Moncton, the Dunlin is not a long-distance migrant, as
many of our shorebirds are, with many Dunlin staying in North America over winter. This
requires less migration fuel and less importance on beginning the migration
flight earlier to make it more likely it will be one of the later shorebirds to
be seen in New Brunswick.
