**  Jan Harris got a photo of a cooperative HUMMINGBIRD CLEARWING [Sphinx colibri] moth. There seems to be a lot of this moth being noted this year.

**  On Saturday, Anne Marsch took some of us out to the site on New Scotland Road, where she had found 3 uncommon SILVERY CHECKERSPOT [Damier argenté] butterflies on Thursday. The activity had heightened at that spot; well over a dozen of them were flying. A seemingly equal number of similar NORTHERN CRESCENT [Croissant perlé] butterflies were flying with them. It made a nice learning experience to see the difference between these two. Two of each species cooperatively perched near enough to one another, to get them in the same photo. An EASTERN TENT CATERPILLAR [Livrée d'Amérique] was noted, briskly moving on the ground. Note the solid white line on the top to differentiate it from the broken white line of the similar FOREST TENT CATERPILLAR [Livrée des forêts]. A photo of Anne surveying her find is also attached.

**  The Silvery Checkerspot was not Anne and Brian’s only find of the day. A JUTTA ARCTIC [Nordique des tourbières] butterfly was also found on a wood road, as well as a hard-to-locate chrysalis of the BALTIMORE CHECKERSPOT [Baltimore] butterfly.

**  Aldo Dorio got photos above and below of a SHORT-TAILED SWALLOWTAIL [Papillon queue-courte]  butterfly on Saturday at Hay Island. Note the pointed non spatulate tails and the yellow band with only a trace of a spot in the cell of the hindwing. This butterfly, similar to the Black Swallowtail is only found in some areas along the Gulf of St. Lawrence coast.

**  Julie Pellerin and Richard Léger were exploring the dirt road portion of the Sainte-Anne Road behind the Beauséjour Campground, near Shediac, on Saturday. They came across a COMMON NIGHTHAWK [Engoulevent d'Amérique] displaying and calling in the same area where they had encountered one a few years ago, making them wonder about there being a territory. They also had a NORTHERN GOSHAWK [Autour des palombes] perch roadside for nice observations. Julie has an AMERICAN BITTERN [Butor d'Amérique] seeming to use a pond in her Cap-Brûlé backyard with frequency. On a ride to the Cookville area, she spotted a EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE [Pioui de l’Est].
