** Suzanne Rousseau sends updates on the 2 FOX SPARROWS [Bruant fauve] that have been patronizing her Sussex feeder yard on most days this winter and are still contentedly in attendance. There are now the odd reports from P.E.I. and Nova Scotia that this species is starting to appear on their migratory route to breed to the north of us. The springtime window to see this species in its rich, breeding plumage is slowly happening. The Fox Sparrow’s seeming habit of constantly working out (scratching the ground) can be the first tip off that one is present.

** Jane Leblanc got a nice photo of a female HOODED MERGANSER [Harle couronné] near the St. Martins beach on Tuesday. There were 2 of them, both female. Note the basal and extended lower mandible yellow portion of the bill. This is present in female Hooded Mergansers even the immature females, but not in adult or immature males.

** Bob Blake keeps daily temperature records, recording morning lows and daily highs as well as monthly precipitation amounts from his Second North River home. Bob sends a table to compare his records from March of 2019 and 2020 that is attached below. Note that there is a dramatic difference in the precipitation of 80 in 2019 and 24 in 2020.
