**There
have been several reports of NORTHERN GANNETS [Fou de Bassan] dead or injured
along the coastline. Aldo Dorio came across one appearing to have its neck
severely damaged. These injuries and deaths are often considered to be the
result of a shallow dive for fish that results in injury or death. One would
think the Gannet could judge depth before a dive. This may or may not be the
reason, but I don’t think any work has been done on this, to my knowledge. Aldo
also got a RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD [Colibri à gorge rubis] that sat still long
enough for a photo.
